Alexandre de Moraes deactivates his account on X.
The Supreme Federal Court (STF) confirmed that the removal was made at the magistrate's own request.
247 - Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has deactivated his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), according to reports. g1Users noticed, on the morning of this Friday (21), that the profile was no longer active. Shortly after, the STF confirmed that the removal was made at the request of the magistrate himself. Moraes had not used the platform since January 2024.
The exact reason for the account's deletion was not disclosed by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Until then, even without new posts, the profile remained active since its creation in August 2017. Now, when accessing the address previously used by Moraes, the platform displays the message: "This account does not exist. Try searching for another one."
This message is displayed by X when a user decides to delete their own account. In situations of suspension or blocking by court order, the social network usually displays specific alerts.
Million-dollar fine imposed on X - The removal of the minister's profile comes a day after he fined the platform R$ 8,1 million for failing to comply with a court order. Moraes had ordered X to provide registration data for an account attributed to the pro-Bolsonaro blogger Allan dos Santos, who is under investigation for spreading disinformation and attacking the democratic system.
The investigation into Allan dos Santos was initiated in July 2023, and Moraes ordered both the blocking of the profile and the transfer of the user's registration information. Elon Musk's company complied with the first part of the order, but refused to provide the requested data, claiming that "X operators do not collect registration data."
Given the non-compliance, the minister set a fine of R$ 100 per day of delay. In October, he ordered the Supreme Court's Judicial Secretariat to calculate the updated amount of the penalty, which reached R$ 8,1 million. X Brasil's defense appealed, but Moraes rejected the request and upheld the obligation of immediate payment.
Conflicts between the Supreme Federal Court and X - The most recent episode adds to a series of disagreements between the social network and the Brazilian judiciary. Last year, X was blocked in Brazil for more than a month due to non-compliance with Supreme Court orders. The clash between Moraes and the platform reflects the growing tension between the regulation of social networks and the fight against the dissemination of hate speech and fake news.
