Brazil Agency - The Supreme Federal Court (STF) began on Monday (25) the trial of more than 200 people involved in the coup attempts of January 8. On that occasion, vandals damaged the headquarters of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Congress and the Planalto Palace. First to vote, Minister Alexandre de Moraes decided to accept the accusations of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) against the accused.

Voting began at midnight and will continue until 23:59 pm next Tuesday (2). In the virtual format, ministers cast their votes electronically and there is no face-to-face deliberation.

With the release of the vote by the minister who is the rapporteur for the accusations, the other nine ministers of the Court can also begin to vote. If the majority accepts the accusation, the accused will face criminal charges and become defendants in the case. Following this, the minister will have to analyze whether to maintain the detention of the accused who remain in custody.

Due to Ricardo Lewandowski's retirement, the Court does not have the vote of the 11th minister. In a vote that has already concluded, the Court accepted charges against 100 individuals investigated for their participation in the acts.

Prisoners

According to a survey by the Supreme Federal Court (STF), of the 1,4 people arrested on the day of the attacks, 294 (86 women and 208 men) remain in the prison system of the Federal District. The others were released because they no longer represent a risk to society or the investigations.
