Alckmin defies Higienópolis and reveals where the controversial station will be located.

"Sergipe Street with Anglica," the governor states to journalist Monica Bergamo; is it really true?; works in 2013

247_ Is it really happening now? After announcing that the subway station in the Higienópolis neighborhood would be installed at the corner of Avenida Angélica and Rua Sergipe, then changing the future location to Praça Charles Miller, in front of the Pacaembu stadium, under pressure from residents, and later creating a third alternative near Praça Vilaboim, the government now wants to maintain the original project. Governor Geraldo Alckmin confirmed to journalist Mônica Bergamo of Folha de S. Paulo that the station will indeed be at the corner of Angélica and Sergipe.

But will it really happen? Part of Line 6 – Orange, whose construction is scheduled to begin only in 2013 (and be completed in 2017), the station in Higienópolis faces both pro and con pressure. Residents of the neighborhood signed a manifesto stating their opposition to the metro's presence at the intersection of Angélica and Sergipe streets. In response, however, about three thousand people held the "Churrascão da Gente Diferenciada" (Barbecue of the Different People) on Saturday the 14th, a humorous protest against the residents' position.

A few days ago, Alckmin stated that the station will not be moved from the neighborhood: "Higienópolis will have a metro station. Just because some people don't want it doesn't mean it won't have a station; the location is a technical decision," he said. However, according to Monica Bergamo, he went further in pointing out the correct location. Does he really have the final say?
