Lawyers protest and say they will challenge the video shown by Moraes at the Supreme Court: "it's not in the records"
Lawyers for those accused of the attempted coup d'état claim that the recording shown by Moraes during the trial was not part of the case file.
247 - Lawyers for those accused by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) of alleged involvement in a coup plot expressed outrage at the showing of a video with images of the coup attempts of January 8, 2023, presented by Minister Alexandre de Moraes during a session of the First Panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
According to the journalist's column Beautiful MegaleAccording to O Globo, four of the lawyers representing the eight defendants told the column that they were caught by surprise, as the video is not included in the case file. They stated that the defense is considering taking legal action to challenge the legality of showing the material during the trial.
Before beginning to read his vote, this Wednesday (26), Moraes stated that he had previously agreed with the president of the panel, Cristiano Zanin, to show the recording, which shows clashes between coup plotters and police officers who were trying to protect the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília. According to the defense, the presentation of the recording aimed to reinforce the narrative of violence on the part of the defendants and to anticipate grounds for sentences applied in other processes, which are not being analyzed at this time. The ongoing trial deals with the complaint filed by the Attorney General's Office against Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and seven of his allies.
Members of the STF interviewed by the report stated that Alexandre de Moraes' intention was, above all, to rebut the arguments presented by the defense on Tuesday (25), that there had been no violence on the part of the demonstrators in the episodes of the coup acts of January 8, 2023.
The images presented, however, are public and have already been used to support other complaints related to the coup attempts.
