Agreement could end bank workers' strike

The proposal includes a 9% readjustment, in addition to raising the minimum wage to R$ 1,9.

Representatives of bank workers and the National Federation of Banks (Fenaban) reached an agreement today to end the strike, which began on September 27. The proposal will be submitted for approval at workers' assemblies.

The proposal provides for a 9% salary increase starting September 1, 2011, ensuring a real increase for the eighth consecutive year. The minimum wage for bank tellers will be R$ 1.900,00 for a six-hour workday. For clerical positions, the minimum wage will be R$ 1.400,00.

In the Profit Sharing and Results (PLR) program, the additional payment increased from R$ 1.100,00 to R$ 1.400,00, and the maximum additional payment increased from R$ 2.400,00 to R$ 2.800,00.

According to Fenaban, the other benefits are adjusted as follows: the meal allowance increases to R$19,78 per day; the food basket increases to R$339,08 per month, in addition to a 13th basket of the same value. The monthly childcare allowance is R$284,85 per child up to 6 years old.
