247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday (21), in an exclusive interview with TV 247, that he intends to discuss peace negotiations for the war in Ukraine with the President of China, Xi Jinping, during his trip to the Asian country next week.

"I will speak with Xi Jinping, because China is an extremely important country that can have a more serious discussion with the United States. I told Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron, and Olaf Scholz that Brazil is willing to make any effort to guarantee peace. The first thing that needs to be done is to stop the war," the president stated.

Lula praised the official meeting between the Chinese leader and Putin, which takes place this Tuesday, as "good news." The Brazilian leader emphasized that Brazil condemns the Russian invasion, but that more countries need to talk about the possibility of peace, while the United States and Europe continue to supply weapons to Ukraine in the conflict.

"Russia is not just any country, it's not something insignificant. Russia is very important in ensuring that peace in the world prevails for many, many centuries. Since everyone is involved, Brazil has stated explicitly: we condemn the invasion of Ukraine's territorial integrity. We believe Russia shouldn't have done this, it wasn't necessary, but it did. The war has been going on for a year now, so now we need to find someone who will start talking about peace, because the United States isn't talking about peace," Lula stated.

Lula gives an interview to journalists Leonardo Attuch, Tereza Cruvinel, Luís Costa Pinto and Helena Chagas.
