247 - Former President Lula, who according to Datafolha has 48% of valid votes and maintains chances of being elected in the first round, asked his supporters this Friday (16) to pay attention against the dissemination of fake news against his campaign.

"We have to be alert to the messages and not let any lies get through. And we will be able, on October 2nd, to resolve our problem with the history of this country. I am certain that we have the ability to win," said Lula during a political event with allied candidates in Porto Alegre.

The former president criticized the aggressiveness and fanaticism of Bolsonaro supporters and cited the murders of PT voters: one in Foz do Iguaçu, shot during his birthday party, and another stabbed in Confreva, Mato Grosso. "And this genocidal man says: 'I'm going to eradicate the PT, I'm going to end the PT'," he declared.

>>> Bolsonaro's campaign used electoral funds to finance a fake news website and attacks against Lula.

Lula shared the stage with Edegar Pretto, candidate for governor of Rio Grande do Sul, and Olívio Dutra, who is running for the Senate.

“Thank God Lula didn’t abandon us, we didn’t abandon Lula, and when many said: ‘it’s not possible for a worker to be president of this country’. And we, with the strength of hope, said, ‘who said that a metalworker can’t be president?’. And we elected him, we re-elected him (…). And on October 2nd, the radio stations in Porto Alegre and Rio Grande will be announcing: ‘attention, people of Rio Grande do Sul, it’s already decided, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was elected in the first round’”, said Pretto during his speech.

A historical figure in the Workers' Party, Dutra commented on the need to elect a support base for Lula in the legislature and asked the population to engage in politics, solicit votes without spreading hatred, and distribute solidarity and love.

“If elected, we will strengthen the struggles of the Brazilian people in the Senate. Well, Brazilian people, we, from the Brazil Front of Hope, understand politics as a construction of the common good with the protagonism of the people. Politics is not a quid pro quo. None of us can, therefore, go after people to get them to vote for us through a small favor of convenience. No! We will encourage people to reflect on the situation this country is experiencing, which cannot continue, and to vote with their hearts and consciences,” concluded the Senate candidate.

The event was attended by several leaders, including former President Dilma Rousseff, Tarso Genro, former governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Manoela d'Ávila representing the PCdoB, Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the PT, former minister Aloízio Mercadante, Pedro Ruas, candidate for vice-governor, senator from Rio Grande do Sul Paulo Paim, Márcio Souza, national vice-president of the PV, Randolfe Rodrigues, senator from Amapá for Rede, Luíz Tibé, president of Avante, as well as federal and state deputies and representatives of organized social movements.
