40% of public security agents fully or partially agree with coup attempts.
"The research shows how serious the situation is," warns the president of the research institute.
Brazil of Fact - The Brazilian Forum for Public Security (FBSP) will release, this Monday (30), the result of a survey with members of the public security forces on their perception of the coup attempts of January 8. On his social networks, the president of the organization, Renato Sérgio de Lima, anticipated one of the results.
According to the researcher, 40% of public security agents fully agree "that the invaders' demands were legitimate." "The research shows how serious the situation is and that we should act to lay the foundations for a new institutional architecture for public security. It will be pointless to think of each police force in isolation," Lima stated on his Twitter profile.
In an interview with public security officers, the FBSP asked whether the vandalism of the headquarters of the Presidential Palace, the National Congress, and the Supreme Federal Court (STF), carried out by Bolsonaro supporters, is considered condemnable, but with legitimate motivation. The statement was fully approved by 19,4% of the officers and partially approved by 20,5%.
According to the FBSP survey, 62,1% of agents agree fully or partially with punishing the police officers who facilitated the actions of the fraudsters; 17,3% totally disagree with the sanction. The survey also shows that 55,7% believe there was negligence on the part of the local police and 72% agree that the failure was due to planning and command issues.
Research by FBSP shows that 58,9% of respondents agree that the conduct of police officers on the protection lines was inadequate to prevent the advance of Bolsonaro supporters; for 61,7%, the blame lay with the Army command, which delayed the decision to remove the coup plotters' encampments in Brasília.
