10 women are raped every day in Rio.
More than half of the assaults in the state involve victims under the age of 14, according to the 6th edition of the Women's Dossier, released this Friday.

According to data from the 6th edition of the Women's Dossier, released this Friday by the Institute of Public Security (ISP), the victims totaled 3.751 in 2010 – 53,5% of them under 14 years old. There were 313 cases per month throughout the period, an average of 10 women per day.
Among the victims, according to the report, 77,3% were single, 23,2% were between zero and 9 years old, and 30,3% were between 10 and 14 years old. According to the ISP (Institute of Public Security), the 162% increase in the number of victims in Belford Roxo, in the Baixada Fluminense region, is "striking," practically tripling – from 68 in 2009 to 178 last year.
In addition to rape, the report also considers other crimes committed against women. The number of threats increased by 6,2%, with an average of 137 victims per day. More than half of them had their partner or ex-partner as the likely perpetrator. The municipalities of Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, and Nilópolis had the highest number of victims in 2010. In total, 3.857 threats against women were registered. According to the ISP (Institute of Public Security), more than half of the women who were victims of threats (50,2%) had their partner or ex-partner as the likely perpetrator.
In contrast, cases of intentional homicide committed against women decreased by 19,4% in 2010. 299 murders were recorded (6,3% of the total) last year. Of these women, 37,4% were between 18 and 34 years old; 34,9% were single and 16,6% knew the accused – 13,3% of the victims, in fact, were ex-partners or partners of the likely perpetrator of the homicide.
