Mutirões mark the passage of World Cleanup Day
The campaign aims to reach 37 cities across 20 states and the Federal District.
By Alice Rodrigues*, Agência Brasil - Next Saturday (20), World Cleanup Day, starting at 7 am, 22 cities across the country will carry out joint efforts and educational activities to take care of their squares, rivers, mangroves, beaches, and pipelines.
The mobilization marks the passage of the global date, recognized by the United Nations and celebrated in around 200 countries.
In Brazil, the initiative is coordinated by the Limpa Brasil Institute and developed in 20 states and the Federal District where Transpetro has operations, such as storage and distribution of oil, derivatives, biofuels and natural gas.
According to the organizers, the purpose is to promote "environmental education and circular economy initiatives." The collected waste will be disposed of properly. Reusable materials will be sent to waste picker and recyclers associations.
In addition to the clean-up activities in 22 cities on Saturday, from this Tuesday (16) there will also be cleaning activities, workshops, lectures, educational activities, games and puppet theater in 37 cities in 20 states and the Federal District.

Last year, more than 1,2 tons of waste were collected during the World Cleanup Day mobilization.
