MDHC launches call for proposals to support projects for the inclusion of people with disabilities in Marajó.

Up to three social organizations will be selected to develop accessibility and participation initiatives in the Pará archipelago.

247 - The Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC) opened, on Monday (18), a public selection to finance initiatives aimed at promoting the rights of people with disabilities in the Marajó Archipelago, in Pará. edict It provides support to up to three civil society organizations, focusing on inclusion, accessibility, and social participation.

This initiative is part of the National Plan for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – New Living Without Limits and the Marajó Citizenship Program, strategic policies of the Lula (PT) administration to expand access to basic rights in regions marked by historical inequalities.

The importance of the project for the region

According to the National Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Anna Paula Feminella, the public call seeks to reduce structural barriers that limit citizenship in Marajó.

“People with disabilities in Marajó face historical barriers that restrict access to basic rights. With this public call, we seek to strengthen local initiatives that promote inclusion, accessibility, and social participation, in line with the guidelines of the Marajó Citizenship Program,” he highlighted.

The call for proposals limits participation to organizations based in the 17 municipalities of the archipelago, which must prove at least three years of existence and a minimum of one year of experience in similar activities. Each entity may submit only one project, respecting all the documentary requirements stipulated in Law No. 13.019/2014.

What should the projects include?

The proposals should include initiatives such as:

  • creation and strengthening of support networks;
  • Promoting access to health, education, and transportation services;
  • combating stigmas and prejudices;
  • Encouraging social and political participation;
  • Expanding access to assistive technologies, as provided for in the Brazilian Inclusion Law (Law No. 13.146/2015).

Marajó Citizenship Program

Established by Decree No. 292/2023, the Marajó Citizenship program is aimed at combating the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, defending human rights, and expanding public policies in a region with more than 590 inhabitants.

The General Coordinator of Diversity and Intersectionality at the National Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Raul de Paiva Santos, highlighted the local complexity: “It is a region marked by social, economic, and infrastructural challenges, where cultural diversity meets high levels of inequality and social vulnerability. Added to these challenges are numerous political, social, and environmental conflicts experienced by populations with disabilities, riverside communities, Black people, Indigenous people, and quilombola communities,” he explained.

Registration and funding

Applications are open until September 16, 2025, exclusively through the platform. Transferegov.brThe total amount available is R$ 600, with a maximum of R$ 200 per project. The preliminary results are expected on September 19, 2025.
