247 - The Amazonas State Government's sustainability programs were presented during the United Nations Pre-Conference on Climate Change (pre-COP30), held by the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Amazonas (Crea-AM) and the Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy (Confea). The event, which began on Friday (January 31st) and continued until Saturday (February 1st), took place in Manaus.

The Secretary of Urban and Metropolitan Development (Sedurb), Marcellus Campêlo, represented Governor Wilson Lima at the opening of the meeting and emphasized that sustainability is a cross-cutting principle in the state's public policies. “The governor has maintained this focus since his first term and has accelerated all actions to make it cross-cutting. Any project that originates within the Government of Amazonas needs to identify which Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) it is addressing. Furthermore, it needs to be identified as important for the sustainable development of the state,” he stated.

Among the initiatives cited by Campêlo is Ilumina+Amazonas, a program that modernizes public lighting in inland municipalities by replacing old sodium vapor, mercury vapor, or mixed lamps with LED technology. “The technology offers greater energy efficiency, allowing for savings of up to 60% in electricity consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. We have already implemented LED lighting in 49 municipalities and 238 rural and indigenous communities. The goal is to reach all 61 inland municipalities before COP30,” the secretary highlighted.

Another ongoing project is the Social and Environmental Program of Manaus and the Interior (Prosamin+), which is expected to benefit more than 60 people with urbanization, drainage, water supply, sewage, and reforestation works. The program covers an area of 340 square meters along the Igarapé do Quarenta stream, passing through neighborhoods such as Armando Mendes, Nova República, Coroado, the Industrial District, and Japiim.
