ABAG celebrates the appointment of André Corrêa do Lago to preside over COP 30.

247 - The Brazilian Agribusiness Association (ABAG) expressed enthusiasm for the appointment of Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago as president of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), scheduled to take place in Belém, Pará. The organization congratulated the diplomat on taking on the challenge and highlighted his track record in climate and international negotiations.

In a statement to the press, Luiz Carlos Corrêa Carvalho, president of ABAG, emphasized the importance of the choice. "COP 30 has a president capable of leading the discussions at a crucial moment for the global climate agenda, sustainability, and preservation. An experienced, skilled diplomat, open to dialogue, who will contribute to positioning our country as a protagonist in this agenda, recognizing that agribusiness is part of the solution to combat climate change, and effectively implementing mitigation actions," he stated.

Corrêa do Lago, currently the Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), is recognized for his involvement with sustainable development and bioeconomy agendas. His appointment is seen as strategic for coordinating actions that promote a balance between environmental preservation and economic development, placing Brazil at the center of global climate decisions.

ABAG also congratulated Ana Toni, National Secretary for Climate Change at the Ministry of the Environment, on her appointment as executive director of COP 30. According to the organization, the presence of qualified leaders at the event strengthens Brazil's image as a relevant and committed player in achieving climate goals.
