Lula says Brazil will seek to increase mineral exploration after studies.
The president also announced the expansion of coverage for protected marine areas.
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Thursday (6) that Brazil will seek to explore its mineral resources in sedimentary regions only after carrying out environmental impact studies and expanding preservation zones in the locations, as well as marine areas.
"We will expand the coverage of our marine protected areas from 26% to 30%, fulfilling the goal of the Global Framework for Biodiversity," said President Lula during the roundtable "Climate and Nature: Forests and Oceans," at the COP30 Leaders' Summit in Belém (PA).
"Before exploring mineral resources in sedimentary areas, we will conduct studies to measure the environmental impacts and create conservation units in the region," he emphasized.
