Union of the super-rich against taxes

We are not only observing class struggle, but also a war treaty through blackmail.

Hugo Motta (Photo: Bruno Spada/Chamber of Deputies)

Let's be honest. The political dinner that brought together Hugo Motta, João Dória, Ricardo Nunes, and Cabral in São Paulo, where he received support from businessmen to push through controversial measures, is beneficial to Brazil in any way? What is the point of those who want to overturn Lula's measures? The crisis being fabricated by the press to weaken the president at this moment actually hides the fact that the decree aims to tax gambling and betting, and ultimately tax billionaires, large banks, and financial institutions. To that end, Motta has already stated that the Chamber and Senate will work together to prevent tax increases.

It's difficult to say, historically, when this class struggle, so blatantly visible to the public, began. Capitalism in Brazil started in the second half of the 19th century, during the decline of slavery and with the banking crisis of 1866, called the "Souto Crisis," which represented the financial center of the time, Casa Souto, a bank owned by the Portuguese Antônio José Alves Souto, favored by Emperor Pedro II. Today, social media helps to better propagate social differences and their injustices, in a more stark way. Meanwhile, the government tries to save social programs, attempting to exempt those earning up to five thousand reais from paying taxes and increase the average income by 11% above inflation.

Alexandre de Moraes has filed a request to secure the measure through the Supreme Court. Opposition and far-right leaders want to sour all relations, which could lead to an all-out war until the next election next year. The strategy is always to bleed until the end. After all, Congress violated the verbal agreement between Lula and Haddad. Shouldn't Congress be acting to relinquish mandatory amendments, privileges for its members, and the increase in the number of deputies?

We are not only witnessing class struggle, but also a war treaty through blackmail. Hugo Motta promises to block income tax exemptions and other government social programs, while Flávio Dino advances the investigation into secret parliamentary amendments. The far right promises to set up a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) into the INPS (National Institute of Social Security), which only reflects badly on the government by weakening morality, not to mention the conclusions of the investigations into the attempted coup d'état by the previous government. I imagine everyone applauding Trump taxing the entire world, and the right applauding the problems that will affect that same class.

The IOF (Tax on Financial Operations) affects the powerful, those who possess capital that goes both in and out of the country, and they have found a Congress that is more right-wing than those from the military regime in the country's history. And to this end, through the president of Congress, Hugo Motta, our Lex Luthor, they managed to unite the entire financial bourgeoisie on the front lines. Expect campaigns in newspapers, TV debates, and dissemination on Bolsonaro's networks to overthrow the government in the next election. They've already started trying to weaken Haddad by saying he's isolated, that the text is poorly written, that the government is hardline, even though the Tax on Financial Operations is a regulatory tax, not a revenue-raising tax. So, a priori, Congress shouldn't even interfere in the discussion. But nobody remembers that Bolsonaro signed a decree that increased the IOF in 2021. Do you remember any protests at the time? Were there any hidden clauses?

But there is always a possibility of winning this battle through justice, because the balance sheet of the previous government's budget revealed the dismantling of almost all public policies, and with their return at this moment, the population can realize how much they were deprived without knowing it. Just as a loving hug can save lives. And show who is on whose side.
