A transition just the way the devil likes it.

"Defeated at the polls, without national support and even less international support, the far right doesn't have the strength to turn the political tide," says the journalist.

A transition just the way the devil likes it.

Depending on the will of the people, the final days of the Bolsonaro government will bear the mark of the great moments in the country's history.

Several hundred thousand Brazilians will gather in Brasília to celebrate the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, entrusted by 60 million voters with resuming the country's development and reducing inequalities, after four years of destruction and sell-out by Jair Bolsonaro and his accomplices.

With less than a week to go before the inauguration, two news items cast a shadow over this process, highlighting institutional weaknesses that have plagued the country since 2016. Preparations were discovered in Brasília for what would have been the worst terrorist attack in the country's history, involving the explosion of a tanker truck on the runway of the Federal Capital's airport, which handles 27.397 passengers daily.

The discovery of the truck bombing pointed to a larger plot than the biography of the only person arrested so far, George Washington de Oliveira Souza, a gas station manager, with whom an arsenal worth R$ 126,000 in machine guns, rifles, and pistols was found. (His monthly income is between 4,000 and 5000 reais).

At the same time, the departure of the current Minister of Defense, General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, was announced. He was the one who made his mark in 2022 with a report tailored to fuel Bolsonaro's failed campaign against electronic voting machines.

The general recently contributed to creating an environment of disorder. He brought forward his departure from his post to this Friday, 48 hours before the original deadline – when Lula will not yet have been sworn in and Bolsonaro will be out of the country. Treating the general's decision as a simple escape from his responsibilities, historian Manoel Domingos Netto observed, in an article in Brasil247: "It seems that the runaways are planning a leaderless position in the military. Ranks without leadership become hordes. If contaminated by political debate, they go mad. Is that the plan, commanders?"

As part of this scenario, commanders refuse to disperse the organized encampments in the vicinity of the barracks in the Federal District, where the available workforce gathers for violent actions near the centers of power.

Let's set the tone for this debate clearly. Defeated at the polls, without national support and even less international support, the far right doesn't have the strength to turn the political tide. The October 2022 elections reflected a clear, consistent political will, based on popular memory. The game of terror is incapable of winning. But it can hurt, cause suffering and fear.

Therefore, it must be contained through the only resource that the people possess to defend their rights – popular mobilization, which is bringing thousands of Brazilian men and women to Brasília. According to José Genoíno, "at Lula's inauguration we have to occupy Brasília; it has to be a massive and popular inauguration."

Any questions?
