Maximum temperature in Brasília

We are paying off the external debt with great difficulty, but we will not be able to do the same with the internal debt, and without a revision of the federal model, a reduction in the number of municipalities, and the merging of states in the Northeast and even the North with the Central-West, we will run the serious risk of repeating the mistakes of history.

The week that begins could be considered a week of maximum intensity in Brasília. Among many discussions, we will have the impeachment debate, a possible deliberation on the Eduardo Cunha case, renegotiation of state debts, with repercussions on the cost of public employee payrolls, and the unlikely approval of the New Commercial Code, which the vast majority of the academic community has already opposed.

It's a wintry month, but the temperature is rising, as the interests at stake will be multiple. The president of the Supreme Federal Court will now assume the proceedings, which are expected to last until the end of the month. Meanwhile, the interim government has serious responsibilities and concerns regarding reducing the level of unrest and criticism against its policies. Furthermore, it's important to remember the number of plea bargains that continue to reverberate and plague the entire country.

The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate will have the opportunity to show the country that not all of our politicians are tainted by the misappropriation of public funds and the shady dealings that occur behind the scenes of bills and most of the legislation that influences how the courts interpret them.

Let's highlight and emphasize the issue of abuse of authority, just as in Italy, where they attempt to "shut up" investigations and legislate in favor of corruption, trying to diminish and belittle the functions institutionally exercised by the Powers of the Republic.

It is worth noting that there are countries in which a magistrate is designated as the highest anti-corruption authority, who receives all cases involving authorities and gathers the best evidence for an efficient trial, free from the illusion of privileged jurisdiction.

Brazil must break free from its stagnation and take swift and decisive steps to counterattack in all areas: macroeconomics, growth, and inflation stabilization, without neglecting the serious social problem it has faced for centuries and which has remained unresolved to this day due to a lack of statesmanlike vision that does not compromise public finances and budget management.

While the next steps are being discussed in the Brasília arena, the Olympic Games are developing with effort, sweat, creativity, and imagination. The country, whose honor has been struck by the biggest scandal in history, has nevertheless proposed to host an Olympics and welcome hundreds of delegations. The cost will be known in detail at the end, when the bill falls into the hands of the City Hall, the State, and finally reaches the Federal Government, which will certainly have to cover the deficit and normalize, as quickly as possible, the calamitous state of Rio de Janeiro's finances.

Foreign investors are trying to mobilize for the post-impeachment period, given that the situation abroad is far from encouraging, with Trump as a candidate and negative interest rates in several countries, but the beauty of Rio de Janeiro does not reflect the climate of pessimism surrounding unemployment and industrial activity with no prospect of recovery.

The political model of financing has faded, and so has free electoral advertising. In truth, there are few candidates truly dedicated to politics (with a capital P); most are unprepared and play on the voters' complete lack of culture and knowledge, thus producing the kind of rubbish that multiplies during times of crisis.

May our eyes remain permanently fixed on Brasília, not just in the coming week, but permanently, so that we are never surprised by governments of dubious means producing deficient public management and placing the country in the hands of immense efforts to tear down the statist ideology.

We are paying off the external debt with great difficulty, but we will not be able to do the same with the internal one, and without a revision of the federal model, a reduction in the number of municipalities, and the merging of states in the Northeast and even the North with the Central-West, we will run the serious risk of repeating the mistakes of history.

However, as long as the Olympics last, we will dream of a first-world country.
