Parliamentary gang
The "Banditism Amendment" transforms Congress into a refuge for corrupt and criminally allied individuals in power.
The Chamber approved the Proposed Constitutional Amendment that elevates deputies, senators, and party presidents to the status of an untouchable and unaccountable caste.
In fact, the PEC is a mafia-style protection code superimposed on the Constitution, which states that "all are equal before the law, without distinction of any kind"; that "men and women are equal in rights and obligations, under the terms of this Constitution" [art. 5].
The parliamentarians placed themselves above the law. With the constitutional change, the congressmen themselves decide – they wanted it by secret ballot, which ultimately did not pass – whether or not to authorize the courts to prosecute and judge themselves and the presidents of their parties, or whether or not to accept judicial decisions against themselves and their associates.
The proposed amendment even benefits parliamentarians who commit crimes that are not subject to bail, are not subject to the statute of limitations, and are heinous. It's the kind of thing a gang of criminals, a mafia protecting itself, would do.
With the favorable votes of some deputies from the PT [12], the PDT [10] and the PSB [9], this indecent PEC obtained the quorum necessary for approval.
Leaders of these parties justified these votes as part of an agreement to defeat the amnesty bill, which is a miscalculation, especially after the conviction of the crucial core of the coup plot to 159 years and 3 months in prison.
One mistake the PT (Workers' Party) made in the Chamber of Deputies was not taking a firm stance against the proposal and instead launching an aggressive campaign to educate the public about the absurd meaning of the proposed constitutional amendment.
The nomination of Eduardo Bolsonaro to lead the PL and allied parties is shameful, but it says much more about President Hugo Motta and the Chamber's Board of Directors than about Eduardo and the PL.
It's unbelievable that Motta and the House leadership haven't yet taken steps to remove this fugitive from justice who commits crimes against Brazil and the Brazilian people in alliance with US fascists.
With the "Banditagem" amendment, the amnesty bill, and the impunity of Eduardo Bolsonaro and Carla Zambelli, the Chamber is signaling to the PCC, Comando Vermelho, and similar organizations that their members will have a safe haven there in Congress.
