If Lula is defeated, he grows stronger; if he isn't defeated, Haddad wins.
Journalist Alex Solnik analyzes Sergio Moro's decision to postpone Lula's testimony in the Atibaia farm case; "Moro and other tormentors of Lula have already realized that he only grows when they try to corner him. Moro realized that if he maintained the interrogation, he would give Lula space to appear as a victim on national television a few days before the election. In other words, Moro would give a platform to his personal prisoner. And giving a platform to the greatest orator in the country means further increasing his advantage over his competitors," he assesses.
Yesterday, Moro cancelled Lula's interrogation scheduled for September 11th regarding the Atibaia property. When he scheduled that date, he knew it would be on the eve of the election. But only yesterday did he take the initiative, claiming he didn't want to taint it. Not at all. The reason was different. Moro and other Lula's tormentors have realized that he only grows stronger when they try to corner him. Moro realized that if he maintained the interrogation, he would give Lula space to appear as a victim on national television just days before the election. In other words, Moro would be giving a platform to his personal prisoner. And giving a platform to the country's greatest orator means further increasing his advantage over his competitors.
He postponed the trial to try to harm Lula, not to avoid poisoning the elections. It was a political decision, therefore. And it shows the predicament Lula has put his jailers in. They imprisoned him, but they can't keep him away from the elections or from his voters. With each measure that represses him, the campaign for his freedom intensifies.
The same can be said of the TSE's executioners. If they quickly block Lula – which the procedure doesn't allow – they will be accused of bias and of persecuting Lula, which will only help the PT candidate's campaign; if the trial is prolonged, Lula will remain free and unhindered during his free TV time, winning over new voters.
There's no way around it. If they attack Lula, Lula grows; if they don't attack him, Haddad wins.
