Renan Calheiros wants to decide the election in the first round.
A seasoned professional politician, hardened by the experience of the job, has the math on the table.
Quietly and discreetly, Senator Renan Calheiros (PMDB) has been acting decisively with the goal of ensuring his son wins the election in the first round. A seasoned professional politician, hardened by experience in the field, he has the math on the table.
Having access not only to officially released polls, but also to internal polls conducted municipality by municipality, especially in those where his son has the support of the main local leader, the mayor, he has been calling these allies for a face-to-face conversation.
As a mayor who met with Renan Calheiros on Thursday (11) told me, he was called and he responded. He entered a room and there he was. God? No. But it was the all-powerful president of the Federal Senate.
These meetings have been taking place since last week. The mayor is being asked to work to increase the percentage lead by another five points. The goal is to ensure that the election is effectively decided in the first round, as the numbers show.
Naturally, this request extends to the other candidates in the political group, including Senator Fernando Collor. Both gubernatorial candidate Renan Filho and Collor have approximately a 17% lead over their closest opponent.
This was the result of an Ibope poll – registered with the TRE-AL under number 00010/2014 – released last week. Collor had 41%, Heloísa 24%, Renan Filho 43%, and Biu 26%.
Therefore, all efforts are focused on ensuring that the political structure unfolds to win in the first round. No effort, whatever it may be, is being spared that could jeopardize a victory now, leading to a second round, which is a separate election altogether.
