Barbosa's arrogance is synonymous with his unpreparedness for the Supreme Court.

He should leave the Supreme Federal Court and run for a legislative or executive position. Then, he will have the authority to speak about politics and politicians.

The controversy that occurred during the ceremony marking the resumption of activities at the National Congress, when I raised my arm with a clenched fist in greeting party deputies stationed in the Federal Chamber, demonstrates how the Brazilian media takes sides. In its eagerness to attack the PT (Workers' Party), it has constructed a false hero who, even shielded from criticism, cannot hide his unpreparedness to perform the duties of president of the Supreme Court of Brazil.

The voices that rose up in anger to point the finger at me, condemning a simple greeting, were the same ones that fell silent when Joaquim Barbosa failed to greet President Dilma during Pope Francis's visit. Imagine if it were the other way around? These voices also remain silent about the acquisition of a property in Miami that is, at the very least, irregular. Imagine if it were a congressman from the PT or any other party? He would be lynched.

Barbosa was reckless when he said that the Legislative branch is entirely dominated by the Executive branch, in a direct attack on the National Congress. When he said that political parties were sham, that federal judges' associations acted surreptitiously, and that lawyers were lazy or worthless. To me, such statements are from someone who has no appreciation for Brazilian democracy and even less the ability to preside over the Supreme Court. At no point did I fail to refute the absurd attacks on the National Congress, on professional associations, and on democracy.

I have honored my parliamentary mandate granted by the people of Paraná, defending a more just Brazil for all. I have championed the causes of Paraná, and as vice-president, I have courageously stood up for our interests.

The granting of a suspicious injunction against the Regional Federal Courts was another act of Barbosa's arrogance that harmed Paraná. And I don't hear the angry and energetic voices condemning compliance. A new court is a banner raised by Paraná society for over 20 years and which lay dormant in the Federal Chamber for over 10 years. I conducted the vote swiftly in two rounds and sanctioned the project in six months as vice-president of the National Congress.

And in the dead of night, Minister Joaquim Barbosa puts an end to this Brazilian dream. It's not just the people of Paraná who depend on the Regional Federal Court, located in Porto Alegre, but other states that need the speed of justice so that their issues can be resolved quickly.

Joaquim Barbosa, as president of the Supreme Federal Court, should focus more on institutional and legal issues concerning Brazil instead of putting on a show for the media, in a clear display of arrogance.

In my view, he is far from being a savior of the nation, as many claim, and he could even play an important role in politics. To do so, however, he needs to hang up his judicial robes and experience political party life, as former President Lula rightly said. He should leave the Supreme Federal Court and run for a legislative or executive position. Then, he will have the authority to speak about politics and politicians.

I reaffirm here that, in greeting my colleagues, I did indeed make a gesture of resistance from the PT (Workers' Party), but that gesture is also a gesture of resistance from countless activists for just causes in society across various eras and regions of the planet. I disagree with the new format of the AP 470 trial, because in addition to being media-driven, it inaugurated the Theory of Command Responsibility, in which one can condemn without evidence and under popular booing. But the clenched fists represent more than that.
