For a government of national salvation based on science, planning, rationality, and solidarity.
Bolsonaro's reckless actions have created a situation of an "operational president," a position that does not exist in our Constitution and would be held by the Chief of Staff, General Braga Netto.
Who actually governs the country? Bolsonaro's reckless actions have created a situation of an "operational president," a position that doesn't exist in our Constitution and would be held by the Chief of Staff, General Braga Netto. This anomaly is caused by Bolsonaro himself, whose handling of the coronavirus crisis resembles that of a superstitious person in the Middle Ages facing the Black Death. His obsession with simulating a false normality, with the resumption of non-essential services, contributes to the spread of the virus and causes even more stress among the population.
In these difficult times, it is fortunate that we have sensible actions, such as the creation of the Scientific Committee of the Northeast Consortium, formed by doctors, scientists, physicists, and researchers, with the aim of assisting the governors of the states in the region in making decisions about actions to combat the pandemic. On the other hand, Brazilian entities are uniting in a "Pact for Life and for Brazil" to alert and represent Brazilian civil society and fight against the serious "sanitary, economic, social, and political" crisis that the country is experiencing, bringing together the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil – CNBB, the Brazilian Bar Association – OAB, the Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns Commission for the Defense of Human Rights – Arns Commission, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences – ABC, the Brazilian Press Association – ABI, and the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science – SBPC.
The current moment demands a qualified president, with genuine leadership, capable of pulling us out of this crisis. Bolsonaro's fight with the Minister of Health, Luiz Mandetta, is only proof of this urgent need. There is a growing immediate need for a government of national salvation for the people, for science, for planning, for rationality, and for solidarity – with a coalition of all democratic forces committed to the hegemony of common sense.
Without lives, there is no economy. Fight for democracy! Bolsonaro out!
