Attorney General's Office "seems" to be protecting Michel Temer.
Michel Temer thanks the prosecutor. One less front in the battle. For now.
By stating that former minister Geddel Vieira Lima (PMDB-BA) appears to have assumed the position of "leader of a criminal organization," the Attorney General of the Republic, Raquel Dodge, seems to be "protecting" Michel Temer (PMDB). Let's see why.
Identified as the owner of the R$ 51 million found in an apartment in Bahia, Geddel, as the "leader of a criminal organization," would have no way to implicate anyone else. He would be at the top; not even Temer would be above him.
The prosecutor defended maintaining the former minister's imprisonment in a statement to the Supreme Court:
"The provisional release or house arrest sought by Geddel Vieira Lima is absolutely incompatible with the legal criteria for efficient criminal prosecution, which aim to guarantee the public interest, safeguarding society and directly ensuring public order. Even in white-collar crimes, precautionary criminal measures are applicable in order to protect society, especially since the position assumed by Geddel appears to have been that of leader of the criminal organization," writes Dodge.
Michel Temer thanks the prosecutor. One less battlefront. For now.
