Research shows that voters already know the truth. And they will be set free.

"Clearly, the pathetic trip to Goofy's land isn't the determining factor in Bolsonaro's downfall in the polls. The brutal and significant drop is due to the overall picture that has been built step by step, blunder by blunder, shame by shame, since January 1st. The American farce only makes things much worse," says columnist Gilvandro Filho, from the Journalists for Democracy network.

"You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Who would have thought that President Jair Bolsonaro would see the phrase he so often exploited as a catchy slogan during his election campaign turn against him? The then-candidate repeated John 8:32 so often that, by all indications, the truth is being revealed and is materializing in the form of public opinion polls.

And the latest polls are revealing: once the government is known, after only two months and 20 days, the truth is beginning to emerge, relentlessly. And the electorate is already showing signs of abandoning the elected official. Soon they will be free.

The most recent poll released yesterday by IBOPE showed an increase in the number of people who consider the Bolsonaro government awful. The percentage of those who rated it "bad" or "terrible" grew from 11% to 24%. Meanwhile, those who still believe in the "myth's" administration and consider it "good" or "excellent" have fallen from 49% to 34% of those surveyed. It's best to get used to it, because the government is going downhill.

But it's no wonder. This is a clumsy government, without a leader, with bizarre ministers and bossy sons, that makes Brazilians suffer one embarrassment after another. If the government had started a week ago, the trip of the Bolsonaro delegation to the United States would already be, in itself, sufficient reason to plummet any popularity.

What the "friendly president" did in the presence of his idol, the toupee-wearing Donald Trump, consolidated Brazil's leading position in the ranking of global ridicule. Bolsonaro demonstrated to the world how easy it is to ruin a country's reputation and throw its sovereignty in the trash.

Clearly, the pathetic trip to Goofy's land is not the determining factor in Bolsonaro's downfall in the polls. The brutal and significant drop is due to the overall picture that has been built step by step, blunder by blunder, shame by shame, since January 1st.

The American blunder only makes things much worse.
