Paranoia and work incapacity

Brazil, which experienced the struggle for the National Education Plan and the investments made during the Lula and Dilma governments, with the expansion of investments and opportunities for underprivileged youth and the recognized success of programs such as PROUNI, FIES, Science Without Borders, the creation of Federal Institutes and the expansion of Federal Universities, needs seriousness in the Ministry of Education to become a developed and inclusive nation.

I turn to a German conservative politician to express my feelings after reading the interview with the new Minister of Education of the devilish government:

God is unjust, for he has placed serious limits on human intelligence, but none on their stupidity. - Konrad Adenauer

Adenauer was the mayor of Cologne (Koln), a lawyer, and a thinker. A conservative, but a serious person who developed profound reflections. He defended his liberal convictions, contrary to socialist ideals, but always based on interconnected and structured ideas. He was imprisoned by the Nazi Gestapo for being considered an opponent of the regime.

I quote Adenauer because I would like to see a true debate in Brazil between the defenders of ideas on the right, center, and left, with rationality and genuine public commitment. But what to say about this excerpt from the interview:

You advocate confronting "cultural Marxism." How do you propose to do that?

- In the short term, we're being careful with everything that comes out of the Ministry of Education, such as textbooks. We're concerned about leaks and sabotage. But I'm not going to hunt anyone down. I'm not a communist hunter. I don't like communism, but I accept communists. I want their redemption.

Everything indicates that this is a mix of ignorance, insecurity, and paranoia. Cultural paranoia, I would say. Where would there be cultural Marxism, whatever that means, in the Ministry of Education?

Another excerpt from the interview:

What is the main problem to be faced in Education?

There are several things on the agenda that are behind schedule. Vélez left because of that. Not because he was caught in a scandal or because he lacked intellectual capacity.

The minister doesn't even superficially answer the question and instead focuses on explaining, in a pathetic way, the departure of the Colombian Vélez, clarifying that "he wasn't caught in a scandal."

When confronted with the controversy surrounding the existence of a dictatorship in Brazil after the 1964 coup, he claims it wasn't a dictatorship, only a "state of exception." Now, what do you call a "state of exception" that organizes a brutal system of political persecution, that tortures and kills, that sought in every way to humiliate Juscelino Kubitschek, subjecting him to artificial inquiries conducted by subservient and aggressive military officers, that revoked mandates and collaborated with other dictatorships on the continent in bloody repression?

When asked about his plan for federal universities, he demonstrated complete ignorance, prejudice, and a lack of knowledge about higher education and the cross-curricular nature of the curriculum.

He says that "Brazil spends a lot and scientific production with objective results for the population is low. We need to choose our priorities better. I'm not against studying philosophy, but imagine a farming family whose son returns from college with a degree in anthropology? I think he would bring more well-being to himself and the community if he were a veterinarian, dentist, teacher, or doctor." Confusing philosophy with an anthropology degree demonstrates ignorance and triviality.

It would be stimulating to debate educational strategies with a conservative minister who knew where he stood and what his major challenges were. But, like his predecessor, he seems to be just another inept minister in a government lacking a plan and a clue.

With all due respect, perhaps it would be appropriate to apply the provisions of the Official Medical Examination Manual for Federal Public Servants:

Mental alienation is defined as any severe and persistent psychiatric or neuropsychiatric disorder in which, after exhausting the usual means of treatment, there is a complete or considerable alteration of personality, seriously compromising value and reality judgments, as well as the capacity for understanding and self-determination, rendering the individual totally and permanently disabled for any work.
