The 50th anniversary of Picasso's death will be on April 8th. To commemorate this renowned painter and sculptor, considered one of the most influential and important figures of the 20th century, cartoonists from various countries have joined together in the virtual exhibition "Picasso Among Us," portraying the artist and his works through their drawings. The exhibition is organized by the website of the Brazilian Cartoonists Association (ACB) and can be accessed on the HQMIX Blog starting April 5th.

The art of painting is perhaps the most personal art form an artist can have. It's him and the blank canvas, all or nothing. Picasso, one of the most famous painters of all time, always went to extremes in his work. But he also knew when it was the right moment to create, beyond everything that already existed, and gave us a multitude of new graphic ideas.

Cartoonists quickly grasped this message and knew how to go beyond graphic humor. Therefore, Picasso was not just a painter of an era, but an instigator of graphic creativity. This exhibition, with more than 220 drawings from approximately 35 countries, gives us an idea of these roots, as Picasso himself is the object of inspiration in various styles. "This is the best tribute we could pay to this restless soul who will always be among us," says the president of the Brazilian Cartoonists Association, José Alberto Lovetro (JAL).

The initiative had the support of the Spanish embassy, especially Ambassador Maria del Mar Fernández-Palacios Carmona, who provided a video presentation about Picasso, which conveys the feeling that this tribute is truly something special.

The exhibition begins with a drawing by Chico Caruso, made for his book "Pablo Mon Amour," which was part of an exhibition organized by André Barroso on the occasions of the 20th anniversary of Picasso's death at the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, and the 30th anniversary of Picasso's death in various locations in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Chico gave a lecture, relaunched his book, and participated in the exhibition.

The exhibition features names such as Ziraldo, Chico Caruso, Joaquim Aldeguer, Ulisses Araújo, Vanina Prajs, André Barroso, Xaquín Marín, Omar Zevallos, Paolo Lombardi, Jean Claude, Gio, Mauro Miranda, Stella Peralta, Neltair Abreu, Néstor Dámaso, Synnöve Hilkner, Paulo Pinto, Walter Toscano, Emad Hajjaj, Konstantin Kazanchev, J. Bosco, Paulo Cid, Pavel Mtuska, Érico San Juan, Fadi Toon, Luis Haro, Omar Figueroa Turcios, among others.

The exhibition Picasso among us is curated by André Barroso, Francisco Puñol and José Alberto Lovetro (JAL); with technical support from the company ARRIMINUM; and support from the Brazilian Cartoonists Association – ACB.
