The corrupt oligarchy promised a president but delivered a Jim Jones.
"They promised the illusion that the fascist would be a president to govern the country, but in reality they delivered a sociopath even worse than 'pastor' Jim Jones, who in November 1978, in Guyana, led to collective suicide [or murder] by poisoning," writes columnist Jeferson Miola.
After refusing to accept defeat to Dilma in the 2014 presidential election, the corrupt oligarchy, then politically led by Aécio and FHC's gang, followed this path:
[i] increased the spread of misogyny, sexism, machismo and hatred against the PT, the left, the poor, black people, women and against all people who do not fit into heteronormativity and patriarchal logic;
[ii] set the country ablaze and destabilized it with Eduardo Cunha’s “bomb agendas” and the fascist mobs cheered on in the streets by Globo;
[iii] promoted the legal-media-parliamentary coup of impeachment fraudulent scheme to overthrow Dilma;
[iv] installed the Temer-PSDB kleptocracy in power and began the savage and merciless destruction of the sovereignty, national wealth and rights of the Brazilian people;
[v] corrupted the country's justice system to imprison Lula through the farce orchestrated by the Lava Jato criminal organization, as Gilmar Mendes calls the Curitiba gang; and
[vi] brought to power a sociopath who was known to be fascist and corrupt, who never hid his idolatry of torturers, his sadistic fondness for torture and rape, and his links with militias, paramilitaries and the criminal underworld.
In the 2018 election, this same scoundrel oligarchy, with Aécio, FHC, and the entire PSDB [with the rare exception of Alberto Goldman], had no qualms about rejecting Fernando Haddad, but was incapable of saying Not him! for the sociopath who is known to be fascist and corrupt.
This choice was justified. For the bourgeois elite, the fascist would not only ensure continuity, but would guarantee the deepening of the brutal plunder and pillage of Brazil's wealth and sovereignty.
They promised the illusion that the fascist would be a president to govern the country, but in reality they delivered a sociopath even worse than "pastor" Jim Jones, who in November 1978, in Guyana, led to the mass suicide [or murder] by cyanide poisoning of all 918 fanatical followers of his sect. Temple of the Peoples: Full Gospel Christian Church.
The coronavirus pandemic has dispelled any doubts about Bolsonaro's sociopathic nature and morbid, criminal impulses: he doesn't fight the coronavirus, he advocates collective suicide – which, in this case, corresponds to the official plan for the deliberate extermination of Brazil's poor population.
Note: the wikipedia It offers a good review of "Reverend" Jim Jones; a delusional individual of the same ilk as the religious charlatans who own religious sects and media groups in Brazil.
