The OAS has already notified Temer about the impeachment.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has sent a notification to the Presidency of the Republic regarding the complaint filed by PT (Workers' Party) deputies Wadih Damous, Paulo Pimenta, and Paulo Teixeira against the coup-like nature of the impeachment, which they claim violates the political rights of President Dilma Rousseff and Brazilian voters, reports Tereza Cruvinel, columnist for 247; "The reaction from the international organization comes just days before the final judgment by the Senate, increasing the embarrassment for those conducting the process," the journalist points out; "The correspondence requests explanations from the Brazilian government regarding aspects of the process, such as the observance of due process and the right to defense, the existence of pending judicial appeals, and the grounds for the accusation," she states.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights sent a notification yesterday to the Brazilian State, through the Presidency of the Republic, regarding the complaint filed by PT (Workers' Party) deputies against the coup-like nature of the impeachment, which would violate the political rights of the ousted president Dilma Rousseff and the Brazilian voters who granted her the mandate.
The international organization's reaction comes just days before the final Senate trial, increasing the embarrassment for those conducting the process, who will face Dilma's own presence in the plenary session. At this moment, the PT's emphasis is on internationally denouncing the escalating criminalization against Lula and Dilma, as exemplified by the multilingual booklet being distributed to embassies and multilateral organizations, denouncing the judicial persecution of the former president.
In the correspondence, signed by Mario López Garelli on behalf of the Executive Secretariat of the commission, several explanations are requested from the Brazilian government regarding aspects of the process, such as the observance of due process and the right to defense, the existence of pending judicial appeals, and the grounds for the accusation.
Copies of the notification were sent to Representatives Wadi Damous, Paulo Pimenta, and Paulo Teixeira, who signed the complaint.
