What advances is backwardness.
Notably detached from social concerns, what emerges from the obscure cloak of interim rule is regression and liberal zeal, in the mold of a "survival of the fittest" state never before imagined in the light of social republicanism typical of the Brazilian tradition.
An interim stance is everything the interim government fails to demonstrate. Although the impeachment issue has not yet been decided in the Senate, the setback to important social achievements made in the last decade continues steadily. If this is already the case during the interim period, I can only imagine what they are saving for the day after the Senate makes its final decision regarding the now-suspended government, should they win.
To begin with, the poor quality of the choices made for the top tier of government is remarkable. The selection of the Minister of Planning was tragic; he lasted a mere 12 days and couldn't withstand the justified arrest warrant requested by the Attorney General's Office from the Supreme Court, a warrant that was never carried out – a real shame! I emphasize that the Planning Ministry is the most strategic in a government, as it's where all public policy in action within the Executive branch passes through. I would also add the "sudden illness" that befell the Minister of Transparency and Control, who had indiscreet conversations recorded that were incompatible with public morality and the governmental control he was tasked with implementing.
These tragedies alone would have been enough to put an end to any vain hope in a government of national salvation, which is what it purported to be, but there was more.

As a simple example of what is currently happening, I highlight the unrestricted tightening of public accounts, establishing a severe limit on the investment that the country can make in the social area, which has so greatly contributed to putting food on the table for workers and also their children in university classrooms. This is a freeze on public investments programmed to last 20 years. Until then, year after year the permitted increase will only be that of inflation, that is, zero real increase, whether the economy grows or not. (PEC 241/2016)
As a trump card for the approval of the "Spending Cap Amendment," the interim government is offering governors the suspension of state debt payments for two years if they support the measure with their congressional delegations. Furthermore, it wants states to hand over state-owned companies for auctions by the BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank), and so on.
In the international arena, the interim government supports the UK's exit from the EU, as this is what it intends to do with Brazil within MERCOSUR: a shift to the right.
Ultimately, what emerges during this interim period are liberal policies, preferences, opinions, trends, and appetites. Was this part of the Dilma-Temer ticket in 2014?
