The golden pen drive
Mommy, I want it, Mommy, I want it. Mommy, I want to nurse. The composition of this little march by Jararaca and Vicente Paiva could very well be the theme of Eduardo Bolsonaro's trip to Qatar. A trip that nobody would have noticed if it weren't for the internet. I usually say that there are three great inventions of humanity: the wheel, fire, and the internet. You can't escape the virtual network these days. You leave virtual marks, and almost every human being owns a camera. Who thinks they can blend into the crowd, like Hannibal Lecter when he escapes from prison and says he'll become just another face in the crowd on the phone with Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs.
The difference is that Hannibal Lecter was a cultured doctor, but he had a self-confessed Antisocial Personality Disorder. Eduardo Bolsonaro, on the other hand, is light-years away from Lecter's capabilities. How, in 2022, does Eduardo Bolsonaro travel the world to deliver a bunch of 2010 model pen drives, claiming it's a secret mission to deliver content about Brazil? Did he need to do this during the World Cup? Not content with being caught at a Brazil game, the other day he was watching the Iran game from the sheikh's VIP box. How much public money did this secret operation, codenamed "Pen Drive," cost? Who received its contents during the World Cup? And ultimately, what is so important about this trip?
Eduardo worked with hamburgers in the US. Perhaps there's some secret gourmet hamburger recipe with Brazilian elements, maybe fruits, that McDonald's, an official sponsor of the World Cup, needs. Any spy, from countries less well-known on the international stage, would do such a thing. In Brazil recently, two spies were captured due to minor errors, and perhaps they continued their activities given their discretion; they never needed to leave the country to deliver any pen drive. They use the Dead Drop system, where they leave it in a designated, hidden location, and an accomplice comes by later and retrieves the document. There's no need to travel.
He's far from being a spy. Today there's even Dropbox or some service for delivering large files over the network, or even sharing files on Google Drive. Nobody uses pen drives like that anymore. The negative aspect is Eduardo Bolsonaro taking advantage of the World Cup, with public money, forgetting that he encouraged Bolsonaro's supporters to call for a coup d'état in front of military barracks and blocking roads for their own amusement. Those considered cattle, who have been enduring the rain and harsh weather in the streets since the election results, felt betrayed. And increasingly, with time, the climate of fear of a coup is crumbling or being carried away by the rain.
Those who still defend (the few) Eduardo Bolsonaro's attitude speak of foreign aid. But what kind? After all, Bolsonaro was considered an international pariah. Nobody wanted to be associated with the former president. Even COP 27 in Egypt invited President-elect Lula for lectures and talks, despite the official presence of the Brazilian delegation at the event. And which, incidentally, was seen sightseeing. The only ones who have real connections with the president are those of the global far-right. A network that can be dangerous, on the one hand, due to the possibility of terrorism or the incitement of social chaos in the country. But if it depends on the leaders, it won't happen. If it depends on the neo-Nazi cells, it could be a possibility.
Trump was seen meeting with American neo-Nazis. And despite Bolsonaro being a Trump copycat, we can expect him to meet with his peers soon. As for the pen drives, it will only serve as a catchy tune for the next Carnival.
