The barons' coup against democracy.
The first actions of the coup government clearly demonstrate the intentions of the elites. What we are witnessing is an attack on democracy.
Disguised and disguised as legality, the institutional coup suffered by President Dilma Rousseff constitutes yet another act of the Brazilian elites, already accustomed to this type of political offensive. Brazilian history clearly shows us the elites' stance against governments that promoted social inclusion.
These attacks date back to Getúlio Vargas' second term. Because he instituted the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws) favoring workers and established Petrobras to explore for oil in Brazil, Getúlio suffered various forms of persecution from the elite and ultimately committed suicide.
It was no different with President João Goulart, who considered implementing fundamental reforms related to agrarian, student, urban, and political issues. Goulart ended up being deposed by the reactionary elite who promoted violent actions against him.
This same elite showed its true colors, mainly through Rede Globo de Televisão, during the Diretas Já campaign. The people truly took to the streets against the military dictatorship, and the broadcaster, the mouthpiece of the elitist government, began to hide the facts until its own employees rebelled against the broadcaster's stance.
In other words, a democratic government, with a focus on inclusion programs that promote improved quality of life for the poorest segments of the population in our country, doesn't last. Democracy bothers these people, and the fact that President Dilma is currently removed from office is further proof of this. She committed no crime.
Brazilian elites talk about corruption, even though they themselves are the most perverse and corrupt in the world. They forget to look at their own surroundings. No one in their right mind can be in favor of corruption, which is still a serious problem in Brazil, precisely because the fight against corruption is still in its infancy. This fight began less than 10 years ago.
But the truth is that this coup, orchestrated by the Vice President of the Republic Michel Temer and his henchman Eduardo Cunha, proves what we are saying here. The first actions of the coup government clearly show the intentions of the elites. In the very first week, they began announcing the withdrawal of labor rights, the reduction of social programs that benefit the children of the poor, the reduction of resources for public health, the dismantling of the Minha Casa Minha Vida (My House, My Life) program, and (astonishingly!) the imposition of a gag order on the Public Prosecutor's Office.
What we are witnessing is an attack on democracy. The mission of the Workers' Party, now in the trenches of resistance, is to continue mobilizing its militants to defend the social legacy built in the country by Lula and Dilma. This is especially important because the entire world, with very few exceptions, recognizes that the country has suffered a new coup, much to the liking of the national media barons.
