The end of the line for a cartoonist.

Chico Caruso, who created the cartoon for "O Globo" on March 8th, International Women's Day, depicting Dilma Rousseff kneeling, about to be beheaded by an Islamic extremist, is the same artist who illustrated the Kiss nightclub tragedy in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, on January 27, 2013, for the same newspaper. In that equally unfortunate cartoon about the tragic event that killed 242 people and injured 680, Chico Caruso drew Dilma with her hands on her head and people being burned inside the building. In other words, he tried to lead readers to believe that the president had something to do with the tragedy.

Both illustrations received a great deal of criticism on social media, but they were also largely ignored. In both cases, there was a glaring silence from the mainstream media.

And Caruso will continue thinking, in front of his modern computer, that he is pleasing people with his supposed critical sense, and will continue to tread the abject path of disrespect, of mockery for mockery's sake, of repugnant vulgarity.

Perhaps he will continue to be fawned over by his audience, which condones insults against women, rumors, biased reporting, statements from slanderous columnists, and journalists who confuse impartiality in an interview with a lack of manners...

Sad end for a great cartoonist. His lack of dignity led him to a low level, to servility, to bad taste. He never learned that, for a cartoonist, talent lies not only in drawing well, but also in being intelligent in criticism and decent in dealing with people.
