The context of Lula's speech
For the fight for democracy, the authorization for Lula to speak is the important outcome of the Supreme Court's spasms, now a priority target of the fascist attacks from Lava Jato and its Bolsonaro supporters. If the new authorization is confirmed, Lula's interview will represent a milestone in the process of restoring the democratic rule of law.
For the fight for democracy, the authorization for Lula to speak is the important outcome of the spasms within the Supreme Federal Court (STF), now a priority target of the fascist attacks from Lava Jato and its Bolsonaro supporters.
If the new authorization is confirmed, Lula's interview will represent a milestone in the process of restoring the democratic rule of law and also a necessary step towards restoring unity within the democratic and left-wing camp.
The legal squabbles between the Attorney General's Office, the president of the Supreme Court, and the members of that Court, considered "supreme," express the unraveling of the coup-plotting unity accelerated by Bolsonaro's misrule.
Even amidst the economic downturn, Bolsonaro still has "ammunition," as he has a loyal popular base, especially those linked to religious fundamentalism. More than just being convinced to vote for Bolsonaro, this popular base has replaced, in their minds, Lula, silenced by Moro, with the "myth" who supposedly "can do anything."
After being vaccinated by overdoses of anti-PT sentiment, the captain's popular base felt that he was different from other politicians of the ruling class. They didn't associate him with economic power, bankers, and the corrupt political system. But the disastrous hundred days of misrule showed that it will be practically impossible for Bolsonaro to keep his base deceived for long into believing that he governs for economic power and not for the people. In their naiveté, born of low political awareness, a large part of the population still doesn't see economic power as their enemy, but only corrupt politicians and privileged elites.
Knowing this risk, and already seeing signs of it in the truckers' movement, his former base, Bolsonaro is resorting to ideological terrorism, to the delusional "fight against communism," always associated with the Workers' Party (PT). But this smokescreen to hide his dependence on economic power, bankers, and American imperialism is working less and less.
Red May is approaching, with strikes, demonstrations, and protests from a people awakening to the impasses we are experiencing as a nation.
That is why Lula's speech is so important at this moment. If he speaks, it will bring together the loose ends of the opposition and the still diffuse dissatisfaction, causing them to merge into a powerful popular current that will demand the return of democracy as the only way to pull the country out of the crisis.
