Brazil cannot be reduced to Rio das Pedras.

Journalist Hayle Gadelha views with perplexity Jair Bolsonaro's avoidance of Davos, as he did not grant a press conference to avoid discussing his son Flávio's relationship with the Escritório do Crime, the Rio das Pedras militia suspected of assassinating Marielle Franco. "Now the press and the Brazilian people are to blame? Are we the ones transforming the country into the dominated community of Rio das Pedras?" he questions. "The feeling is that the country is being swallowed by the rotten side of Rio das Pedras – while the president doesn't know what to do in Davos..."

Brazil cannot be reduced to Rio das Pedras.

Operation The Untouchables touched on a delicate point: the spurious, indigestible relationship between the political world and the world of organized crime, a Rio de Janeiro reminiscent of the Chicago of Eliot Ness. And here in Rio, the capital is Rio das Pedras, with the government of the Crime Office (the armed wing of the criminal organization) maintaining a branch installed in an office at the ALERJ (Rio de Janeiro State Legislative Assembly). And this is one of the saddest parts of the whole story: the office belongs to state deputy Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the President of the Republic!!!

Here, incidentally, we arrive at the crucial point – President Bolsonaro's misguided reactions. In his first reaction, stunned, he said that his son would have to pay for what he did. Wrong! A father who, at the first sign of difficulty, throws his son to the lions is incapable of thinking about the people. The second reaction was equally terrible: "It's not fair to use the boy to try to get to me." What does that mean? Now the press and the Brazilian people are to blame? Are we the ones turning the country into the dominated community of Rio das Pedras? A president so unprepared only increases the insecurity of the population. Things got so out of control that the president's superior military officers (!) decided to take the reins, determining that Flávio Bolsonaro should not assume the Senate seat. It's all surreal, unbelievable!

The feeling one gets is that the country is being swallowed up by the rotten side of Rio das Pedras – while the president doesn't know what to do in Davos...
