Tearful notes of repudiation from radical defenders of democracy are proliferating on social media against the rural rally held by Jair Bolsonaro for the green and yellow supporters, located in the Urban Military Sector of Brasília, in front of the Army Headquarters – nicknamed here, by us locals and residents of Brasília, as "Fort Apache".
First, the act itself.
Faced with a demented man intoxicated by his own insanity, a small crowd of far-right fanatics brandished banners calling for a new Institutional Act Number 5, an extreme measure taken by the military dictatorship in 1968, therefore 52 years ago. AI-5 closed the National Congress and suspended the institution of... habeas corpus, It suppressed individual freedoms and served to imprison opponents, torture and kill political prisoners.
These were not people, therefore, who were shouting for the end of democracy in front of Fort Apache. They were fascists, a category of non-humans who, like the coronavirus, spread like a social disease when the rule of law has low immunity. The fact that this mob is allied with the virus is no coincidence. It is a matter of epidemiological affinity.
Bolsonaro, dressed in a faded red shirt two sizes too small, alternated his usual foolishness with coughing fits and sudden losses of balance. He's always been a sick man. It remains to be seen if there are other pathologies besides the mental ones, which have been widely diagnosed.
