On March 8th, we have a bill for equal pay, but also a city councilor accused of sexual abuse proposing a law that persecutes rape victims.
Outrageous! Absurd bill forces pregnant rape victims to listen to the baby's heartbeat before having an abortion.
Imagine this situation: Jussara is raped and seeks an abortion, something guaranteed by law in Brazil. However, before the procedure, she will be sent to a cold and silent room. There, she will be forced, through an ultrasound, to listen to the baby's heartbeat, in an act of intimidation to make her regret her decision. (more) details here)
This “wonderful” idea is a project by councilman Felipe Passos from Ponta Grossa (Ah, southern Brazil!). But here's the cherry on top, which I saved for last: Felipe is responding to accusations of SEXUAL HARASSMENT and embezzlement in the City Council.
"We can rape, harass, assault. Let the woman have the child and deal with it later. I just want to have sex," think respectable men.
That's what March 8th is for! It's not a day for receiving congratulations, but rather for denouncing violations against our bodies, for reflection, and for resistance!
It's a good thing we made the "L," isn't it? On this side, of humanity against barbarism, Lula has already proposed a bill to equalize salaries between men and women. Now that's a fight in defense of life.
