A world leader is born.
"Brazil is gaining a president, and the world is gaining a leader," writes journalist Alex Solnik.
Lula's speech at COP 27 was fantastic. His debut on the international stage after being elected. It couldn't have been better. He made it clear that he didn't just come to collaborate in the fight for the preservation of the planet's environment, he came to lead. And the reason is very simple: the planet's survival depends on the Amazon. And the Amazon will be a priority for his government.
He nicknamed himself "Lula, the debt collector".
He promised to hold other COPs accountable for decisions that never came to fruition. He made it very clear that rich countries must compensate the most vulnerable for environmental damage. And that the UN Security Council must be expanded and reformed. And that peace among nations is fundamental.
Brazil is gaining a president, and the world is gaining a leader.
