New York museum, Nazism, and Bolsonaro's embarrassments.
With his fascist-like ideas, his erratic attitudes, and his idiotic tweets, "Captain" Jair Bolsonaro is rapidly damaging Brazil's image abroad.
With his fascist-like ideas, his erratic attitudes and his idiotic tweets, “Captain” Jair Bolsonaro is rapidly eroding Brazil’s image abroad. In recent days, two more episodes have confirmed this deterioration. On Monday (15), the American Museum of Natural History in New York announced that it will no longer host a ceremony scheduled by lobbyists from the Brazil-United States Chamber of Commerce in honor of the native militia member. On Saturday, the President of Israel reacted to Jair Bolsonaro’s repugnant statement that he “forgave the Holocaust”. Before that, he had already endorsed the delusional thesis of his Foreign Minister, Ernesto Araújo, that “Nazism is left-wing” – which also generated revulsion and mockery throughout the world.
In the case of the cancellation of the "gala dinner" scheduled by the native and Yankee crooks of the Chamber of Commerce, the management of the Museum of Natural History didn't even bother to feign diplomacy. They said that Jair Bolsonaro's presence had generated revulsion among intellectuals and civil society entities. They also informed that the event had been scheduled "before the honoree was known." Online, an environmentalist highlighted that it was "a bitter irony that a man who tries to destroy one of the most precious natural resources is named Person of the Year within a space dedicated to celebrating the natural world."
In a letter addressed to the museum's president, Ellen Futter, students, doctoral candidates, and researchers from the institution also requested the suspension of the tribute to the "fascist president of Brazil," stating that it would be "a stain on the museum's reputation." New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, also joined the chorus against Jair Bolsonaro. In an interview with a local radio station, he called the Brazilian president "a very dangerous human being... He is dangerous not only because of his blatant racism and homophobia, but because he is, unfortunately, the person with the greatest capacity to impact what happens in the Amazon from now on."
The cancellation of the gathering angered the little fascist Filipe Martins, the "captain's" advisor for international affairs. As always hysterical, he criticized the museum's management and called the mayor of New York a "communist" and a "mole." "It's no surprise to see Bill de Blasio – a guy who collaborated with the Sandinista revolution, who considers the USSR an example to be followed, and who holds rallies at the Gramsci monument in the Bronx – criticizing the president." Meanwhile, Jair Bolsonaro, who boasted about the "gala dinner" on social media, must have looked like he had a colostomy bag because of the international embarrassment.
Bolsonaro "forgives" the Holocaust.
In another humiliating episode, he was publicly criticized by Israeli authorities – this after displaying servility during his visit to Zionist leaders. After stating at an evangelical event in Rio de Janeiro that it would be possible to "forgive the Holocaust," he received a harsh rebuke from Israeli President Reuven Rivlin: "We will always oppose those who deny the truth or those who wish to expunge our memory... We will never forgive nor forget." Faced with this new embarrassment, Jair Bolsonaro even sent a message to the Israeli embassy in Brazil stating that he did not excuse the Nazi extermination and that "any other interpretation only serves those who want to distance me from my Jewish friends."
But the damage had already been done and was the subject of criticism in the world press. According to the website of the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, the statements made by the Brazilian president generated terrible repercussions in Israel. “The Holocaust Museum itself released a statement saying that no one has the right to determine whether the heinous crimes committed by the Nazis in World War II can be forgiven. Yad Vashem is a Holocaust memorial center dedicated to honoring the victims and those who fought against the genocide of six million Jews by the Nazi regime. 'Since its creation, Yad Vashem has worked to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive and relevant to the Jewish people and all of humanity,' the statement adds. 'We do not agree with the Brazilian president's statement that the Holocaust can be forgiven. It is not the right of any person to determine whether heinous crimes of the Holocaust can be forgiven.'"
