Will Meirelles and Álvaro Dias also be dancing?

There are still obstacles in the way of uniting the right wing. However, it seems that these can be removed. Behind the scenes – or rather, in the gutter – there are several movements to unseat the rentier Henrique Meirelles and the Botox-enhanced right-winger Álvaro Dias, who still dream of the Presidency of the Republic.

The native right wing – which the venal media affectionately calls the center – has made a huge effort, including financially, to unify itself in view of this year's presidential elections. So far, the chosen name to represent this camp is that of the "popsicle" Geraldo Alckmin. The so-called "Centrão," led by the DEM and other opportunistic parties, has already committed to marrying the leading figure of the PSDB, guaranteeing him a vast amount of television time. But there are still obstacles in the way of right-wing unity. However, it seems that these obstacles can be removed. Behind the scenes – or rather, in the sewers – there are several movements to dissuade the rentier Henrique Meirelles and the Botox-enhanced right-winger Álvaro Dias, who still dream of the Presidency of the Republic.

Two notes in Folha confirm these “transactions”. The first, published on Sunday (22), refers to the wealthy man who previously chaired the boards of BankBoston and the corrupt JBS. “The MDB pre-candidate, Henrique Meirelles, has spent the last few days calling the delegates of his party. In the conversations, he reinforced the request for votes in favor of launching his name in the race for the Planalto. With the pre-agreement of the centrão with Geraldo Alckmin (PMDB), speculation has grown about the abandonment of the candidacy of the former Minister of Finance. The Planalto says there is no chance”. Anyone who knows the trajectory of the old MDB knows that its leaders don't do anything without a reason. And, as the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's fire!

The second note, published this Monday (23), confirms the isolation of the former PSDB member from Paraná, who is trying to present himself as the candidate of “ethics” in Lava-Jato. “Allies of Senator Álvaro Dias (Podemos) are trying to orchestrate a last-ditch effort to boost his electoral campaign. The presidential candidate is working to attract small parties that usually launch their own candidates, such as the PRTB, of Levy Fidelix, and the PSDC, of José Maria Eymael.” The rescue operation has not been easy. Famous for their political opportunism, the two parties usually sell their support and airtime on radio and television for a high price. In this case, Geraldo Alckmin, the current darling of the business elite and the coup-plotting mafia, has much more “clout” to negotiate support.

Faced with obstacles to their ambitions, the wealthy politician and the disguised member of the PSDB party have been freaking out. In desperation, Henrique Meirelles even went so far as to say that he would not be the candidate of the hated Michel Temer. But he was reprimanded by the MDB party and backtracked, now swearing that he will defend the "legacy" of the gang in power – which perhaps explains why in the polls he has at most 3% of the voting intentions. This week, in another schizophrenic episode, his campaign team presented an advertisement in which Henrique Meirelles appears as responsible for the economic successes during Lula's government. The video claims that "Lula, Dilma, Temer, FHC, Ciro, Doria" and other politicians disagree on almost everything, "except on the qualities of the presidential candidate." It's laughable, grotesque!

Senator Álvaro Dias, who for many years wallowed in the mud of the PSDB party, continues with the discourse that he is the candidate of "ethics." Last April, when he still garnered sympathy from a sector of the elites, the false moralist said in an interview with Jornal do Brasil that his mission would be to end corruption in the country and "refound the Republic, interrupting this political system." After expressing his excitement about Lula's imprisonment, he lavishly praised the media-driven Lava Jato operation, trying to capitalize on the still-high popularity of "judge" Sergio Moro. Since then, however, Álvaro Dias has stalled in the polls, as has the credibility of the "vigilante." Now, he is doing everything to attract the support of the immaculate Levy Fidelix and José Maria Eymael.
