Will Malafaia be Marina's minister?
The question is not merely a provocation. The two dogmatic evangelicals share the same fundamentalist positions not only on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Pastor Silas Malafaia is enamored with Marina Silva and has even declared his vote for the candidate in the second round. After his hysteria on social media, which made the PSB back down from its positions in defense of homosexual rights, the leader of the Assembly of God church posted on his Twitter account this Tuesday (1): "Gay activism withdraws support for Marina. Wonderful! In the 1st round I will vote for Everaldo. In the 2nd, I vote for Marina". Before, also on the internet, he had already celebrated the opportunistic attitude of the former senator, who claimed a "typing error" in the chapter of her program on the subject. Given so much enchantment, the question remains: Will Silas Malafaia be a minister in a possible Marina government?
The question is not merely a provocation. The two dogmatic evangelicals share the same fundamentalist positions not only on the issue of same-sex marriage or the adoption of children by same-sex couples, but also on the issue of the right to abortion. They also unite in their furious opposition to President Dilma. On his Twitter, Silas Malafaia does not hide his hatred: "Dilma supports the criminalization of homophobia. Let's be clear: Gays vote for Dilma. The rest vote for Everaldo, Aécio, and Marina."
Given Marina Silva's political fragility—she lacks the support of the country's main parties or social movements, and even raises doubts within the PSB, from which she has piggybacked—her campaign has been striving to unite the most diverse and antagonistic forces in the country. She already has the explicit support of bankers—including the prominent role of Neca Setubal, heiress of Itaú, in her leadership—and has even signaled support to the agribusiness barons. The candidate herself states, in a typically messianic gesture, that she intends to "govern with the best." In this surreal scenario of the so-called "new politics," perhaps Marina Silva believes that Silas Malafaia also falls among "the best."
In other news: During the SBT debate this Monday (1), it was noteworthy that Marina Silva avoided confronting Pastor Everaldo (PSC), who is part of the same fascist-leaning group as Silas Malafaia. The Valor newspaper itself recorded the curious situation, in a report signed by journalists César Felício, Luciano Máximo and Carmen Munari. "Both candidates are vying for the evangelical vote. Marina used her time to explain the importance of investing in sanitation as a way to improve the population's health indicators. Everaldo did not comment on Marina's proposals on the area, mentioning instead his concern about the deterioration of public safety." All in the utmost cordiality!
Will Pastor Everaldo also be called to Marina Silva's future ministry?
