A journalist from Jovem Pan is being sued by Carla Zambelli (PL) for criticizing the congresswoman for allegedly stealing a weapon and chasing a man in São Paulo.

Jovem Pan commentator Leonardo Grandini received the notification in retaliation for criticism directed at her regarding the persecution of a Black man on the streets of São Paulo.

Grandini shared the following note on his social media:

“I was sued by Congresswoman Carla Zambelli for saying on the “Morning Show” program on Jovem Pan that she committed a crime by drawing a firearm and chasing an unarmed man through the streets of Jardins during the election period. In addition to this, the congresswoman had her social media accounts blocked by Minister Alexandre de Moraes for inciting crime by alleging electoral fraud, as well as defaming and insulting a number of people – including President Lula – always deliberately and inciting hatred among her fanatical and radical followers. Alexandre's colleague on the court, Minister Gilmar Mendes, stated that Zambelli was only not arrested because she has parliamentary immunity; in other words, if she were not a member of parliament, she would already be behind bars. I and hundreds of journalists will continue to denounce the conduct and behavior of parliamentarians like Carla Zambelli, Nikolas Ferreira, Eduardo Bolsonaro… responsible for inciting hatred among people and animosity between democratic institutions.”

UNDERSTAND THE CASE!

The fateful event occurred in October of last year. The PL congresswoman at the time alleged assault by the young man. In a video posted on social media, Zambelli pulls out a gun in public and begins chasing the young man in an upscale neighborhood of São Paulo.

The case generated widespread repercussions, with calls for the removal of the pro-Bolsonaro congresswoman for her actions. Grandini commented on the program 'Morning Show' on the Jovem Pan channel. The journalist, one of the fiercest critics of the Bolsonaro government and his clan, gave his perspective on the congresswoman's actions.

"She broke new ground in Brazilian law, achieving the audacity to claim self-defense while chasing a young man who was running from her. Furthermore, she claimed he pushed her, assaulted her, and all the videos show the complete opposite. Moreover, she lied in her complaint," he emphasizes.

Grandini left the station a few months ago. Besides him, another critic of the former president, César Calejon, also said goodbye. Jovem Pan, considered part of the mainstream media and a representative of Bolsonaro's media ideology, was sued by the STF (Superior Court of Justice) for spreading fake news and hate speech, supporting the coup and the invasion of the National Congress, carried out by Bolsonaro supporters at the beginning of the year, on the infamous January 8th.
