Lula's indictment in Lava Jato sparks "outrage" among PT supporters on social media.
Palocci has been imprisoned in Curitiba for a year and last June was sentenced to 12 years, two months and 20 days in prison under a closed regime for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering. It is in this context that he let the cat out of the bag.
The testimony of former minister Antonio Palocci to judge Sergio Moro, this Wednesday (6), incriminating former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is generating outrage on social media.
Palocci has been imprisoned in Curitiba for a year and last June was sentenced to 12 years, two months and 20 days in prison under a closed regime for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering. It is in this context that he let the cat out of the bag.
On the other hand, PT (Workers' Party) activists are threatening to leave the internet in response to the Lava Jato task force's attempt to arrest Lula.
In his testimony this afternoon, Palocci reportedly said that the former president endorsed a "blood pact" in which Odebrecht committed to paying R$ 300 million in bribes to the PT (Workers' Party) between the end of Lula's government and the first years of Dilma's government, according to his lawyers.
The PT's troops will have a chance to prove that they are "revolutionary" beyond the keyboard and smartphone on September 13th, when Lula will once again face Moro in Curitiba for another deposition on the subject.
Attorney Adriana Bretas, representing Palocci, said that her client "revealed important details about the behind-the-scenes workings and intricacies of the power relations during the transition from Lula's government to Dilma's government, and how this purchase of goodwill from Odebrecht in relation to the government occurred."
The accusation is that Lula received from Odebrecht a plot of land worth R$ 12,4 million intended to be the new headquarters of the Lula Institute (a deal that ultimately fell through) and an apartment worth R$ 540 in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), next to the one where the Workers' Party member lives with his family. According to his lawyers, Palocci not only confirmed that he mediated this arrangement but also that he had Lula's approval.
Conversely, according to the Lava Jato investigation, the former president is accused of favoring Odebrecht in contracts with Petrobras.
Moro and the mainstream media are escalating their attacks against Lula, aiming to remove him from the 2018 election race.
