Prevented from working by Bolsonaro's fascism, corporate media owes the country an apology.

Columnist Gustavo Conde comments on the corporate media's decision to withdraw its coverage from the Alvorada Palace: "the corporate media finally realized the timing and unleashed its usual self-sacrificing, Rochefoucault-esque rhetoric: it will do journalism against its will."

The noose is closing in on the most catastrophic government in the country's history. There is no longer a social base, no longer a willingness to present projects, no longer Moro's judicial intimidation to blackmail parliamentarians, no longer a government party, no longer a policy of good neighborliness with the powers that be, and no longer any way to disguise the failure of the anti-PT sentiment built on a boorish, militia-linked, and now miserably decadent former captain.

The corporate media finally realized the timing and unleashed its usual self-sacrificing rhetoric, à la Rochefoucault: it will do journalism against its will to prevent the total destruction of the country (a destroyed country does not allow fraud and manipulation).

The telling gesture of the mainstream press is to withdraw its journalists from covering the Palácio da Alvorada, the decaying residence of a president consumed by hatred, fear, and despair.

Bolsonaro's supporters – those few, stupid, suicidal imbeciles – harass journalists every single day. To avoid a tragedy, the media outlets have put a stop to it: they will no longer cover the Alvorada Palace's pigsty.

Why did it take so long?

Because the corporate media is stubborn. They believed Bolsonaro would change his ways. With that hope definitively dashed, they open their toolbox of logistics and editorial tools and embark on yet another round of opportunism about a zombie president who will soon fall.

Good news!

Better a hypocritical and opportunistic media than a genocidal media.

The symbolic weight of abandonment in presidential coverage is enormous. Bolsonaro complains about the traditional media every day, but he needs it to keep his dwindling legion of 'idiots' ready.

In the dizzying turmoil of a colossal delay from this cowardly media that suddenly decided to flirt with journalistic practice, one question remains: won't they engage in self-criticism?

We, from 'alternative journalism,' have been warning for so long about the farce that is covering the departure of that beast from the Alvorada Palace, and they don't even thank us?

It leaves a cunning token of solidarity for our fellow captives.

Soon enough, they'll embrace the impeachment argument and the risk of another coup – in fact, before long, they'll be saying that 'it was a coup' (the one in 2016).

That day will come, and I'll want to see it.
