Impeachment cannot withstand the ethics of ties.

"In March 2007, after being caught stealing five ties from a Louis Vuitton store in Miami, worth a total of $680, the chief rabbi of the Israelite Congregation of São Paulo, Henry Sobel, was removed from his position to prevent his moral failing from contaminating the entire institution and all subsequent initiatives," states Alex Solnik; according to him, "the ethics of ties are not taken into consideration in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate."

In March 2007, after being caught stealing five ties from a Louis Vuitton store in Miami, worth a total of $680, the chief rabbi of the Israelite Congregation of São Paulo, Henry Sobel, was immediately vilified by the press, removed from his high positions, and expelled from the Congregation, despite having caused no monetary loss to it and having been one of those responsible for the redemocratization of the country.

He was removed to prevent his moral failings from contaminating the entire institution and all initiatives he might undertake afterward.

The ethics of neckties are not taken into consideration in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

Their presidents and potential successors to the President of the Republic remain in their posts, whether explicitly or implicitly, despite both Eduardo Cunha and Renan Calheiros facing accusations far more severe than those that brought down Rabbi Sobel.

And that implies enormous losses for the country, not only moral but also financial, in the order of millions of reais.

Taking into account that their wrongdoings predate the impeachment process, as they were committed long before, although only Cunha was exposed in advance and Renan only recently, all the actions they subsequently took, especially Cunha's initiative to trigger the impeachment and Renan's acceptance of its continuation against a president who didn't even steal a tie, were tainted by their criminal practices.

You don't need to be a law graduate to realize that people involved in crimes, even if not definitively convicted, are prevented, at least from an ethical standpoint, from bringing the crimes of others to trial, let alone the alleged crimes of the highest authority in the country, elected by the majority of the population.

The same understanding applies to the deputies and senators equally involved in criminal proceedings who participated and are participating in the biggest political fraud in Brazilian history.

If Henry Sobel were a congressman or senator, the tie scandal would still be under investigation by the Supreme Court; if Cunha and Renan were rabbis, the impeachment process would never have even begun.
