Ilabantu advises people from traditional religious territories to vote for President Lula.
Aiming at the fundamental importance of human rights and the restoration of fraternity, Ilabantu, on October 30th, expresses its affirmation of a healthy and dignified life.
ILABANTU, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the institutional and political strengthening of the peoples and communities of traditional territories of Central African origin (terreiros), which maintains the “Inzo Tumbansi”, a Candomblé Congo-Angola of Bantu character, through its leader, Tata Nkisi Katuvanjesi (Walmir Damasceno), has been guiding other Terreiro communities to vote on the 30th for presidential candidate Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, and for the candidates for state governments of the Brazil of Hope Coalition, headed by the Workers' Party, as a strategic and pragmatic way to represent the interests of the communities of traditional terreiro territories, as well as those of the black population in Brazil.
The Democratic Rule of Law, the result of a long history of struggles against authoritarianism and arbitrary actions inherited from the colonial model, has suffered systematic attacks in recent years aimed at dismantling it and consequently curtailing the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution. Faced with these attacks, organized civil society, evidently, does not remain inert, building resistance and democratic progress daily, both in urban peripheries, through the Black working class and communities in traditional religious territories; and in rural areas, through the articulation and actions of quilombola communities.
These struggles, in addition to their self-managed forms, also align with the constitutionally foreseen model of indirect democratic representation. In this sense, the expressed support for former President Lula is evident, as the presidential candidate's political and ideological alignment with the interests of those whom Frantz Fanon called the "wretched of the earth" is undeniable.
On October 30th, Ilabantu calls upon everyone, from Afro-Brazilian religious communities and others, from the Black population and others, to use the ballot box to continue the maturation of our democracy and restore to the Brazilian people their joy, peace, dignified life, and love of life.
