Time for a decision
MDB and PDT face a difficult decision, and for the good of these parties, it needs to be made in the first round.
"Before the appointed time it is not yet time, after the appointed time it is no longer time."
"It's only time, at the right time."
Chinese proverb
Electing many representatives and forming a large bloc is not always the only way for a party to grow and become a major political player. Political alliances or participation in a party federation can be part of this strategy, especially in a difficult election like the one approaching.
Electing large blocs of representatives will not be an easy task, mainly due to the large number of votes needed to secure a seat.
That is why I believe that the PDT and MDB have entered a danger zone, in which the possibility of "turning things around" becomes increasingly difficult due to the anxiety of time to correct course.
The PSB, which has maintained a representation of more than 6% of the available seats in the Chamber of Deputies in recent elections and which, I believe, will see a decrease in its representation due to the aforementioned difficulties, is currently part of a party federation with the PT, PCdoB, and PV, and may emerge strengthened from this contest.
Everything indicates that their ranks will be strengthened with the election of a vice-president, a vice-governor from the largest state in the federation, senators, ministers, and great political prestige to dream of even greater things.
Similarly, PSOL, which formed a party federation with REDE and an alliance with PT, also tends to emerge strengthened from the contest. The political situation allows it to foresee the opening of possibilities for contesting important executive positions, since Boulos' imminent election with a large vote will give him ease of access and visibility in the Federal Chamber.
Add to this Boulos's already well-known political strength, stemming from his brilliant performance in the last municipal elections in São Paulo, his charisma, and his ability to persuade and negotiate.
Furthermore, after two years in the Chamber of Deputies, Boulos could run for mayor of São Paulo, this time with the important support of the PT (Workers' Party). Consider also that PSOL's president, Juliano Medeiros, is the first alternate for Márcio França of the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party), who is running for the only open Senate seat for São Paulo in this election. With Lula's high probability of victory, revealed by numerous polls, a great opportunity to occupy a Senate seat for São Paulo opens up for PSOL.
Let me explain. Márcio França is an experienced figure in the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, and also in leading the government of the state of São Paulo, which qualifies him as a potential candidate to be part of Lula's future cabinet.
All of this leads me to believe that PSB and PSOL emerge significantly strengthened from these elections. They have created strong political conditions for the future.
On the other hand, there is a consensus that the elections are already decided. The question is whether it will be settled in the first round or the second.
MDB and PDT face a difficult decision, and for their own good, it needs to be made in the first round, because in the second round it may be too late for them. With the strategies they have adopted, their representation in parliamentary groups will certainly decrease. Over the next few days, they may make a decision to avoid a painful second-round process and even the chance of a coup.
They can be decisive and emerge stronger from this episode, or they can choose the path that will lead them to ostracism.
