TikTok Government

"This government lacks courage. It lacks combativeness and commitment from the second tier of government," writes Ivan Ribeiro Guimarães.

The team chosen for key positions in the federal public administration is composed of people with no experience in previous governments and, most importantly, no participation in politics. The result is clear: a government lacking new ideas and with no fighting spirit. A complacent government, where everyone does what they think they should do, with no one to evaluate the collective result. Everyone has 2 minutes to show off their dance moves. This is the current administration: the TikTok government.

A government team is serious business. Many problems, many decisions. In Lula's first government, the Chief of Staff's office played a huge role in negotiating and legitimizing political choices. José Dirceu, the most qualified person in the PT at that time, was tasked with leading the Chief of Staff's office. He was the party's main political strategist. He was directly responsible for structuring the party, which allowed Lula's victory in 2002. For example, he radically opposed the "Out with FHC" movement, a juvenile nonsense that some sectors of the party wanted to embrace.

Today, the Civil House is headed by Rui Costa, former governor of Bahia. With a career strongly rooted in the oil workers of Bahia, he has many virtues, but he lacks knowledge of the different regional realities—which, in my view, are essential for the position.

I use the Chief of Staff's office as an example for the entire government. The parties and people who lined up against the far-right knew that there was a Lula 1 government, a Lula 2 government, a Dilma 1 government, and part of a Dilma 2 government. And they decided to support Lula 3. I believe that history has shown that there were mistakes in all governments, but nothing that should shame any member of the party.

The Workers' Party (PT) has done and continues to do a lot for the country. But the third Lula administration seems to be run, in the second-tier positions that make things happen, by people without the willingness to fight for the government.

The result is there, in the polls. This government lacks courage. It lacks combativeness and commitment from the second tier of government. It lacks activism. Above all, it lacks our generals to lead the government. If that doesn't happen, we'll all be practicing dances for TikTok.
