I went to the event!

Long live Piracicaba! Long live democracy! Down with the "PEC of Banditry" and against amnesty for coup plotters.

Exhausted citizens return home on the last bus, under the moonlight. Upon arriving, they will see their children snoring under the high moon and will fall asleep as well. May they have restful sleep, but may the nation not become numb to the habitué of bad politicians. Thus, brazenly, they trample on the life of the uninformed citizen who dozes off in the swaying of the last bus.

In the cold, windy dawn, these gentlemen of Congress voted on a "bandit's tram," by which they could commit any crime the next day, ace it with a criminal record, and nothing would happen to them, without even their own secret vote. The "Banditty Amendment" could list an extensive number of crimes such as aggravated homicide, robbery followed by death, pedophilia, domestic violence, drug trafficking, money laundering, and passive corruption.

What the people need, they don't vote for! Who will fight to end the 6x1 work schedule for exhausted workers, for delivery drivers in hostile traffic, for those who work three jobs? And now this damned PEC! Who will call for a protest? Who can come? And the preparations, the sound trucks, the text...

While serious men pondered a thousand obstacles, the octogenarian artists seized the moment for the Act of Repudiation. Copacabana, Sunday, Rio de Janeiro, and with a show by themselves: Caetano, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Paulinho da Viola, Frejat, Ivan Lins, Geraldo Azevedo, and Djavan. The elderly artists stumbled down, Gil still mourning his daughter Preta, and, more dignified than ever, he went. They recalled the old days of the '68 generation, when they risked their young lives, without any legal incentive, in their patched pants and flip-flops, playing the guitar. Without respect from the dictators, they went and protested against this mess of deputies.

Another senior citizen, at the ripe old age of 79, José Dirceu was at the Brasília rally against the "Banditism Amendment" and the amnesty, or the infamous "dosimetry" (sentencing guidelines). Dirceu also advocated for electing a new Congress, with other deputies and senators whose hearts are sensitive to the country's needs. On Paulista Avenue in São Paulo, the national flag, the size of a basketball court, fluttered in its vibrant colors, unfurled over the sovereign people, in protest against the American flag displayed by those who had surrendered national assets. People from the cities caught up in the capital's "vibe" and took photos like tourists.

Here in the city, where the river flows placidly and the fish rise like exhausted citizens, we mock democracy. I went, and the local and street artists were there. They saved the event. The Garapa Cultural Center positioned itself as best it could, in a sinuous improvisation of the young fish, alongside artists and representatives of society in Largo dos Pescadores. We didn't die on the beach; a despotism of people, familiar faces and eyes emerged in the crowd. Some weary country folk stood up and came to admire. Long live Piracicaba! Long live democracy! Down with the bandit PEC and against amnesty for coup plotters.

The movements in the major capitals were effective; now it's necessary to go down to the municipalities as well and renew commitments.
