The search and seizure operation carried out by the Federal Police against former President Jair Bolsonaro received prominent coverage in major US media outlets on Thursday. The newspapers detailed the accusation and highlighted the president's trip to the country as a possible motive.

Here's what some of the country's leading newspapers said:

NEW YORK TIMES: The newspaper stated that the Federal Police are investigating what they called "forged vaccination." According to the report, the allegedly falsified vaccination cards may have helped the former president and his family enter the US, circumventing the mandatory immunization requirement. The publication also highlighted that Bolsonaro appeared to be crying while denying the accusations.

WASHINGTON POST: Washington's leading newspaper said Bolsonaro tried to "deceive the authorities" and that the former president was aware he had committed fraud.

WALL STREET JOURNAL: One of the most important publications in the world of finance, the newspaper highlighted the accusations Bolsonaro faces regarding vaccination card fraud. The publication also stated that the reason was the then-president's trip to the United States.

NBC: The television network highlighted the news during its news broadcasts this Thursday. The station emphasized that the fraud allegedly occurred when Bolsonaro was still president of the Republic. The report stressed that the fraud was ideologically motivated.

FOX NEWS: The largest conservative news network in the US did not spare the former Brazilian president. FOX reminded viewers that Bolsonaro was in New York in September 2021 for the UN General Assembly and that, months earlier, he had stated that he would not get vaccinated. The report also recalled his defense of chloroquine and the fact that Bolsonaro had made comments linking the vaccine to AIDS. Finally, the report stated that this is not the only investigation against Jair Bolsonaro, citing the case of the Saudi jewels.

Submitting false or falsified documents to immigration authorities is a federal crime in the United States, specifically Chapter 18, Section 1546 of the U.S. Penal Code. The penalty can reach up to 15 years in prison, in cases not involving terrorism or drug trafficking, and, of course, deportation from the country.

Recently, the White House announced that the requirement to present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate to enter the United States will end at midnight on May 11th. Until then, and for the time being, the rule remains in effect. It is unknown whether Bolsonaro presented the allegedly falsified vaccination card on his last entries into the US.
