By Denise Assista, for the Journalists for Democracy - We need to be alert and strong! Caetano was right. In thorny times, when every step of the "other" must be meticulously followed by society, it has been like this: times of vigilance.
We have suffered memorable defeats, but this week, observing the tug-of-war between Congress and the Executive, the last few hours tasted like victory. And we have learned to savor small advances. It must be this way, to keep the morale of the troops high.
It was worth noting, for example, that the dispute between Rodrigo and Bolsonaro and his protégés led to a freeze in the budget, leaving the president with little room for maneuvers of the kind that twice prevented Michel from being prosecuted or becoming a defendant – even with robust evidence.
The deputies' stance, reacting to the executive's eccentricities and confusion with a quick and organized vote, put Bolsonaro's boastful and defiant remarks to the Chamber on the ropes. They demonstrated that, like the comic book character, they have the power. The question is how they will use it.
